We Gave It Our Best

I'm sorry, Mr. Polian, but you did not give it your best. Sunday's loss to the New York Jets made me really rethink the people we have running the Indianapolis Colts organization. With a shot at a 15-0 regular season record, one shy of a perfect regular season, Coach Caldwell decided it would be in the best interest of the team to pull Peyton Manning and the other offensive starters (minus the offensive line, mind you) and let them rest up. They didn't want them to get hurt. Now don't get me wrong, I do not in anyway want any of our players to be hurt. Without those players, we wouldn't have won the first 14 games of the season. So they are vital to the success of the team.

But when will we ever have a chance to run the table in the regular season again? Sure, the ultimate goal IS to win the Super Bowl. No question about that, you will not hear an argument from me. But is not the purpose of playing games to win? Last I checked it was.

Now I don't mean any disrespect to the young Curtis Painter, but the best chance we had to win that game was for him to be on the bench, and Peyton Manning behind center. Yes, Painter needs to get game experience so we can see what he is capable of doing in an NFL game. But isn't that what preseason football is for when you have a very dependable quarterback like Peyton Manning? When the New England Patriots ran the table in the regular season, I didn't see them pulling starters to prevent possible injury to them. I didn't see Tom Brady on the sidelines while Matt Cassel went out so Bill Belichick could see what he's capable of doing (although they found out the following season after Tom Brady's season ending knee injury).

I'm sorry, but I absolutely can't stand it when I'm sitting here listening to The Bill Polian Show, and he's sitting there telling the listeners that they "gave it their best." If that's their best effort at winning a game, then I'd like to know who the hell was playing the first 14 games of the season. Because it obviously wasn't the team that showed up yesterday.

The Colts have put themselves in a situation that they cannot win. If the team ends up winning the Super Bowl, they will be criticized for pulling the starters during this game yet again because then they'd of had the chance at what's never been done before, 19-0. But on the opposite side of the coin, if they end up not making the Super Bowl, whether they lose in the second round or conference championship round, or even if they do make the Super Bowl and end up losing the game, they will then be criticized because they pulled the starters during this game and ruined their rhythm.

Only time will tell on which way they will be criticized. I just hope all the commotion dies down here in the Indianapolis area over what happened, because the obvious focus should now be on how we are going to handle the game against the Buffalo Bills this Sunday.

Let it Begin!

One of the most common goals for people is the goal to lose weight. January 1st, millions of people will declare "lose weight" as their new years resolution, but sadly I would say roughly 70-80% of them will fail with their goal because they will lose motivation. Wouldn't it be nice if the majority of those who fail with their goal, actually succeeded with their goal? Just think of how society would look after a few years of constant weight loss by those who are overweight.

On January 1st, 2009, my resolution was to lose weight. Unfortunately, I was one of those who did not succeed with their resolution. Over the last two or three years, I have substantially lost weight. I used to be roughly 270 lbs, and earlier this year I was down to 203 lbs. But like many things I start to succeed at, I start to lose motivation and my results disappear, and quickly. I am now roughly 236 lbs.

What really got me was I could no longer afford to pay for personal training sessions at the gym. And I know myself, I don't have enough motivation to go to the gym on my own and work out, and when I get home I get side tracked by the computer or video games that causes me to not go run in my own neighborhood. So I know what is setting me back, and I am continuously working at getting passed them. It hasn't been easy, I didn't expect it to be, but in the end it will be worth it. I just need to keep reminding myself of that.

Starting Monday December 28, 2009, my goal is to go to the gym every day and run on the treadmill at least three miles. If for some reason I do not do the three miles, then my goal will to do a fast walk for roughly 45 minutes to an hour. Either way I must continue to push myself past what I think my limits are. That'll be the only way I can accomplish my goals of getting in shape, living a healthier life, and passing the psychical agility tests for the police departments that I apply too.

So like the article title says, let it begin!

Please Remember

I'm not going to go into too much detail with this post. Details aren't the important thing, the message is. Please make sure you take time out of your day to let your loved ones know how you feel, because at any moment it can all be taken away. No matter how young or old we are, or how much we feel nothing can knock us down, nobody out there is immune to the inevitable. We will all go one day, we just don't know when that day will be. So again, make sure to tell those who you love that you do love them, because it could very well be the last thing you ever say to them.

Southern Indiana deputy killed in car crash

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Roy B. (Bruce) Sutton, 35, of Hanover, was killed late Friday night in a one-vehicle crash while responding to a 911 call near Madison, Indiana. Deputy Sutton was found dead at the scene of the accident, according to authorities.

Sutton was one of three Deputies responding to the 911 call reporting domestic abuse, according to a news release by the Indiana State Police.

"Two of the deputies had just arrived at the scene and the third deputy was very near the scene when he met a vehicle traveling westbound on the very hilly and winding Dugan Hollow Road,'' the news release said.

"The sheriff’s vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and went down a very steep embankment and was airborne when the driver’s side of the vehicle struck a tree. Despite the fact the deputy was wearing his seat belt, he suffered fatal head trauma ... ''

Sutton, an 18-month veteran of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, leaves behind a wife and no children.

Col. John Layton – Marion County Sheriff

As an employee of the Marion County Sheriff's Department, the race for the next Sheriff is of great concern to me. Not only for the fact that my tax dollars pay their salary or that they're the face of one of the local law enforcement agencies that serve and protect the community that I live in, but for the fact that my vote counts towards who my next boss will be. Not many people can say they get to vote for who they want their boss to be, they're just stuck with whoever happens to get hired.

I have been honored to have worked for Sheriff Frank Anderson for nearly the last two years, and I only wish I could work for him longer. He has brought the Marion County Sheriff's Department to the forefront of the law enforcement community, and who who he has put in the front office have made the department a wonderful place to work.

I have been doing a lot of research behind each candidate because I want to make sure that the person who receives my vote, I feel is the most qualified person for the job. While Sgt. Mark Brown from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is a very qualified candidate and has lead various divisions of IMPD, I am having a hard time believing that he can lead an entire law enforcement agency.

It appears that Col. John Layton will be getting my vote in the May primaries when he goes against Sgt. Mark Brown to see who will represent the Democratic party in the race for Marion County Sheriff. I have had the honor of meeting Col. Layton and have been treated with nothing but the utmost respect from him. And I am nothing but a lowly civilian employee who works out at the garage. But to Col. Layton, I am a piece of the puzzle that helps the Marion County Sheriff's Department at full efficiency. My job may not be the most glamourous job on the department, but without my job the Deputies would not have cars to be able to go out and do their jobs. Talking with Col. Layton, he makes me feel that my job is one of the most important on the department.

Col. Layton has been with the department for 40 years. From starting out as a low man on the totum pole to being appointed the Chief Executive Officer by current Sheriff Frank Anderson, Col. Layton has always enjoyed serving the people of Marion County. Not many people will spend 40 years at a job and want to be elected to continue their job for another four to eight years.

For those of you who read this and live in the Marion County, Indiana area, I encourage you to read up on each candidate and vote for who you think will do the best job as Marion County Sheriff. Myself, John Layton will receive my vote.

Yet Another Restart

So I have decided that doing another restart of the website is probably the best thing to do. Since it appears that my ability to keep the site up to date isn't all that great, might as well delete the previous posts so that it makes it look like I have been keeping the site updated. Whether it works or not, but I guess it is worth a shot. I mean, it couldn't possibly make things any worse, could it? It's not like I have a great track record of keeping the site updated to ruin.

Anywho, I haven't had a lot to really talk about lately and I figure if there's nothing to post on the site, why waste your time reading it? I am still actively trying to get hired full time as a police officer. I do have a few leads, but with the budget issues a lot of departments are facing, I'm not getting my hopes up too much. Working for the Marion County Sheriff's Department, I completely understand that if the money isn't there to spend, then there's no hope trying to spend it. So my best opportunity is to not be closed minded about where to apply. The more departments that I apply too the better my chances are that I will get hired. I have my application in with the Indiana State Police, as well as the Marion County Sheriff's Department. I might work for them now, but I am just a civilian employee and would love the opportunity to go through our academy and be an Deputy. I am also sending in applications to various other departments around the area, including the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, Noblesville Police Department, Fishers Police Department, Carmel Police Department, and the Westfield Police Department.

I will continue to send in applications and work at getting myself in shape to be able to pass the physical agility tests. Even if nothing happens with the applications this time around, atleast I will have myself in better shape and be healthier. So not all of it will be a downer.
